CRS were instructed by Glanbia to design, build and commission a Mega Cold Store complex for their site in Fonthill, Dublin.
The Brief
Glanbia spotted a gap in the milk market and created mymilkman.ie. The site enables straightforward ordering of milk, connecting its customer with local milkmen. With automated payments processed online. Since it's launch, the system has reinvigorated the milk delivery market with the business growing by over 20%.
With this new demand, Glanbia needed to increase its Cold Storage facilities. They required temperature controlled storage for heavy trolleys weighing up to 250kg in a chilled environment under 2°C.
The Challenges
The main challenged faced with this project was developing a solution that connected seamlessly to an existing loading bay. The solution would be beneficial for the loading and unloading of the extremely heavy trolleys, so would need to be completely flush, with no slopes or bumps.
Emergency Prevention
Glanbia also called for floor coverings to be completely washable with suitable drainage, in order to cope with any spillages.
Timescales
With this project, we were working on a very tight deadline. The solution needed to be installed ahead of peak demand over the Christmas period.
The Solution
The team at CRS presented several options to the client, which all accounted for their specific requirements. The designs detailed how the Cold Stores could be used, loading capacities and aisle spaces and operation at maximum capacity.
Once the plans were approved by Glanbia, we were under time pressure to procure the components and build the 40x60ft Mega Cold Store Glanbia had opted for. Components were sourced and production efforts were ramped up to meet the tight time frame required. The team all pulled together at a time when the industry is at its busiest, with many working over-time to in order to complete the Cold Store.
CRS also paid attention to the energy efficiency of the Cold Store Complex. We installed multiple low-noise Carrier Transicold cooling units to operate independently providing adequate cooling with maximum efficiency, even on the hottest of days.
The Results
CRS designed and build a Super Mega Cold Store and completed the installation and commissioning ahead of the client's deadline. CRS is now pleased to provide Glanbia with a service contract covering any issues that may arise with the Cold Stores. Our service contracts offer both preventative maintenance and a dedicated call-out service. The contract significantly reduces the risk of downtime leading to loss or damaged stock.
