Lower Global Warming Potential

Cold Storage Manufacturers and Suppliers, are continually looking for new innovations to the marketplace.

With the current economic climate Global Warming Potential (GWP) is a huge consideration for many customers.

Many are seeking refrigerant with a lower GWP to ensure their business is doing what it can to be proactive in reducing their Carbon Footprint. Others are looking to get in front of potential regulatory changes that may affect the availability and prices of traditional hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants.

Long-term CRS suppliers, Carrier Traniscold are currently undergoing a process to reduce the amount of traditional HFC refrigerants due to their higher GWP, and are looking into R-513A as an alternative.

R-513A offers a significantly lower GWP score as opposed to those of HFC refrigerants conventionally used in container refrigeration systems. R-513A is a new synthetic blend of the hydrofluoroolefin R-1234yf and R-134a.

Our Approach

Here at CRS, we are taking a proactive approach and factoring in the requirement for lower GWP refrigerants. Working alongside Carrier, it is our recommendation to clients that they should opt for a 513A-ready unit. Meaning should further regulations, restrictions or cost increases of tradition HFC refrigerants come to light our client will be prepared and have the ability to switch to R-513A at their own convenience. Conversions to refrigeration equipment are as simple as a software update and the installation of a new filter dryer.

Availability of the 513A-ready units is anticipated in the later this year.
